Lance Franklin, Hawthorn, has been charged with a Level Two engaging in rough conduct offence against Ben Cousins, Richmond, during the third quarter of the Round 21 match between Hawthorn and Richmond, played at the MCG on Saturday August 22, 2009.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points resulting in the classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record.

An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction.

good I wanted him to get suspended. Was very fustrated early and that bump on cousins was a dog act! I hate buddy now after that lol!

Kosta as you know I am big Cuz fan but curious as to why you think what Buddy did was " a dog act" ? Ball was in the area, Buddy kept his elbow down, fair hip & shoulder. The only reason Cuz went down is because Buddy is almost a foot taller than him so some contact to Cuz's head or neck was inevitable. If I were the hawks I would challenge this strongly.

You wouldn't be used to seeing your boys get hit hey Kosta. That's what happens in AFL when you have a player who puts his head over the ball

What a crock, anyone can see that the bump was last minute, if Cuz knew how to handle a footy he woulda been wrapped up in a tackle instead.

No but seriously Buddy had a perfect intention to hurt cousins and he knew it was him and because its cousins (a high profil player) he went after him. I was watching buddy all game and he was very fustrated, i could tell.

Kosta in all seriousness every AFL players tries to hurt their opposition at every opportunity. Buddy could not tackle Cousins because he didn't have "clear" possession so his only option was to bump. When you bump you always try and smash the opposition as hard as you can no matter who it is. The fact Cousins is "high profile" has nothing to do with it.

I see both sides to this as i believe the head needs to be protected if our sport is to continue to grow, However i believe they need to realise sometimes that although contact was "intentional" it may not have been directed at the head.

To me the system is flawed because there really should have been only two possible outcomes to this.

1. The match review panel deems the contact to be deliberate and to the head - 3 weeks suspension plus.

2. The match review panel deem it accidental - 0 weeks

They cant say they are protecting the head and then give a guy 1 week for knocking a player out?? He either deliberately smashed him and they throw the book at him or it was accidental and he gets off. They cant go half way and give him one week.

I second that Bonnie. Bad news but good news. With stevie j likely out might be coping a donut in the forwards but versing sheeds this week. Buddy should of just been reprimanded. He couldn't pull out of it. He committed his body to it and had no chance to pull back. He isn't some weak guy your talking about. He will hurt somebody if he puts his head (in this case a good bump) to get the ball.

Poor hawks, going to miss their big forwards this week in roughy and buddy in a match to decide 8 spot.

"Poor Hawks". Hawks don't deserve to be in the 8 let alone having a chance to make it in next week!

Kosta check out the VFL records in 1966 & you will see that St Kilda won the premiership that year by 1 point over Collingwood. The only team in the AFL/ VFL that has not won a flag is the mighty Fremantle Dockers

seriously tony, get serious. Watch the footage again and watch franklins eyes and his facial expressions at the time. His eyes are purely on cousins not the ball and his expressions are one that looks like he wants to deliberately hurt him! get some glasses

So Richmond have won 10 premierships since it became the AFL Kosta? News to me as I thought Richmond's last one was in 1980. It became the AFL in 1990. Which means Richmond have won 0 premierships, the same as St Kilda since it has been the AFL. All 10 of Richmond's flags were when it was the VFL. Saints only flag was when it was the VFL also.

Also so as not to add fuel to the fire but Tiges haven't won an AFL premiership as of yet.

His intention was to stop Cousins, you can clearly see that his intention to bump was made a split second before the actual incident, purely because Cousins wasn't able to keep a clean possession.
